Closing The Loop (CTL) is committed – in collaboration with governments, companies and the telecom sector – to sustainable telecom use.
The organization provides a simple solution to mobile phone users and sellers to make their equipment material-neutral and waste-free by collecting discarded telephones on behalf of customers and recycling them on a one-to-one basis. Electronic waste (if not adequately processed) has a significant negative impact on the environment, and the burning of material creates health problems for locals. CTL customers pay a few euros per phone for the purchase of new phones; this money is used to pay African partners for collecting used phones. CTL currently operates in ten countries, where the organization contributes to local economies of responsible waste collection.
Ifund invested in the company together with a group of investors in 2015.
